Learn the four basic steps to
recognize persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them with suicide
helping resources. NYS Office of Mental
Health and the Delaware County Suicide Prevention Coalition are sponsoring a
safeTALK Suicide Prevention Training on Thursday August 14, 2014 at Delaware
County Public Safety Building, 280 Phoebe Lane, Delhi, 13856 from
9AM-12:30PM. There is no charge for this
training; lunch is on your own.
Safe Tell, Ask, Listen and
KeepSafe (SafeTALK) prepares anyone over the age of 15 to identify persons with
thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide first aid resources. Most
people with thoughts of suicide invite help to stay safe. Alert helpers know
how to use these opportunities to support that desire for safety. safeTalk is
for everyone who wants to help prevent suicide: front line workers, clergy,
volunteers, teachers, law enforcement non-clinical providers, parents and youth
at least 15 years old. As a SafeTALK-trained suicide alert helper, you will be
better to:
• Move beyond common tendencies to miss, dismiss or avoid
suicide;
• Identify people who have thoughts of suicide
• Apply the TALK steps (Tell, Ask, Listen and KeepSafe) to
connect a person with suicide thoughts to suicide first aid, intervention
caregivers.
Registration for this
training is due August 8, 2014. Please
